Named after a Pioneer
The center is named in honor of Dr. Michel Odent, a revolutionary French obstetrician who has made dramatic impacts on medical systems, improving the welfare of mothers and children of the world.
He introduced concepts that transformed modern maternity care — home-like birthing rooms, birthing pools in maternity hospitals, and singing sessions for pregnant women. His contributions to research set the foundation for evidence-based obstetrics as we know it today.
Dr. Odent's inspirational contributions to evidence-based reform in the sphere of maternal and newborn health have made him a leading voice for change globally.
The MOM Center is honored to be named after this pioneer in the evolution of respectful maternal care.
Կենտրոնն անվանվել է ի պատիվ դոկտոր Միշել Օդենտի՝ ֆրանսիացի հեղափոխական մանկաբարձի, ով հսկայական ազդեցություն է ունեցել բժշկական համակարգերի վրա՝ բարելավելով մայրերի և երեխաների բարեկեցությունն ամբողջ աշխարհում:
Նա ներդրեց գաղափարներ, որոնք վերափոխեցին ժամանակակից մանկաբարձական խնամքը՝ տնային պայմաններին մոտ ծննդասենյակներ, ծննդաբերական ավազաններ և երգեցողության դասեր հղիների համար: Նրա գիտական ներդրումները հիմք հանդիսացան ժամանակակից ապացուցողական մանկաբարձության համար:

After 18 years in the United States as a medical anthropologist and doula, I returned to Armenia with a clear purpose: the future of our nation depends on how we bring life into the world.
Armenia's birth rate stands at 1.7 — far below the 2.1 needed for population stability. Cesarean rates reach 40–50%, maternal mortality is 2–3 times the European average, and perinatal mortality 4–5 times higher. These are not just medical statistics. They are a national emergency. The MOM Center exists because improving maternal health is both a medical necessity and a matter of Armenia's future.
ԱՄՆ-ում 18 տարի որպես բժշկական մարդաբան և դուլա աշխատելուց հետո ես վերադարձա Հայաստան հստակ առաքելությամբ. մեր ազգի ապագան կախված է նրանից, թե ինչպես է նոր կյանքը լույս աշխարհ գալիս:
Հայաստանում ծնելիության ցուցանիշը 1.7 է, ինչը զգալիորեն ցածր է բնակչության կայունությունն ապահովող 2.3-ից: Կեսարյան հատումների մասնաբաժինը հասնում է 40–50%-ի, մայրական մահացությունը 2–3 անգամ գերազանցում է եվրոպական միջին ցուցանիշը, իսկ պերինատալ մահացությունը՝ 4–5 անգամ: Սրանք պարզապես բժշկական վիճակագրություն չեն, սա ազգային ճգնաժամ է: MOM կենտրոնը գոյություն ունի, քանի որ մայրական առողջության բարելավումը թե՛ բժշկական անհրաժեշտություն է, և թե՛ Հայաստանի ապագայի գրավականը:
Obstetric Violence is a Woman's Rights Violation
Obstetric violence in Armenia is a violation of fundamental human rights, including the rights to life, health, and bodily integrity. It manifests in three interconnected forms — physical, psychological, and financial — all of which strip women of their agency during one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
Defined by unnecessary medical interventions performed without consent or clinical indication — such as unwarranted C-sections, labor induction, fundal pressure, and the denial of preferred birthing positions. It also includes the forced separation of mother and child during the "golden hour," disrupting essential bonding and breastfeeding.
Manifests through verbal disrespect, offensive remarks, coercion, and manipulation. These practices, along with gross violations of privacy and the absence of informed consent, strip women of their agency during childbirth.
Occurs when medical procedures are prioritized for monetary gain or convenience rather than clinical necessity. Doctors may receive bonus payments for C-sections that are 11 times higher than those for vaginal deliveries — creating a perverse financial incentive.

Մանկաբարձական բռնությունը Հայաստանում մարդու հիմնարար իրավունքների խախտում է, ներառյալ կյանքի, առողջության և մարմնական անձեռնմխելիության իրավունքները:
Սահմանվում է որպես առանց համաձայնության կամ կլինիկական ցուցումների իրականացվող ոչ անհրաժեշտ բժշկական միջամտություններ, ինչպիսիք են՝ չհիմնավորված կեսարյան հատումները, խթանումը, ֆունդալ ճնշումը և ծննդաբերության նախընտրելի դիրքերի մերժումը: Այն նաև ներառում է մոր և մանկան հարկադիր բաժանումը «ոսկե ժամի» ընթացքում:
Դրսևորվում է վերբալ անհարգալից վերաբերմունքի, վիրավորական դիտողությունների, հարկադրանքի և մանիպուլյացիայի միջոցով: Այս գործելակերպը, գաղտնիության կոպիտ խախտումների և տեղեկացված համաձայնության բացակայության հետ մեկտեղ, զրկում է կնոջը ծննդաբերության ժամանակ որոշումներ կայացնելու հնարավորությունից:
Տեղի է ունենում, երբ բժշկական միջամտություններն իրականացվում են ֆինանսական շահի կամ հարմարավետության համար, այլ ոչ թե կլինիկական անհրաժեշտությամբ: Բժիշկները կարող են ստանալ կեսարյան հատումների համար 11 անգամ ավելի բարձր հավելավճարներ, քան բնական ծննդաբերության դեպքում:
Armenia's Demographic Emergency
According to the United Nations Population Fund, Armenia has the lowest birth rate in the region — falling from 4.9 to an unsustainable 1.7. With a small population, threatened borders, and rising emigration, sustainable reproduction is not merely a health issue. It is a matter of national security.
Without an adequate population, every other security aspect is bound to collapse. The MOM Center bridges families, birth professionals, and institutions to reverse this trajectory.
Հայաստանի ժողովրդագրական ճգնաժամը
ՄԱԿ-ի Բնակչության հիմնադրամի տվյալներով՝ Հայաստանն ունի տարածաշրջանում ամենացածր ծնելիության մակարդակը, որը 4,9-ից իջել է մինչև ոչ կայուն 1,7-ի: Փոքր բնակչության, վտանգված սահմանների և աճող արտագաղթի պայմաններում կայուն վերարտադրողականությունը սոսկ առողջապահական խնդիր չէ. այն ազգային անվտանգության հարց է:
Առանց բավարար բնակչության՝ անվտանգության ցանկացած այլ ասպեկտ դատապարտված է փլուզման: MOM կենտրոնը կամուրջ է հանդիսանում ընտանիքների, ծննդաբերության մասնագետների և հաստատությունների միջև՝ այս հետագիծը փոխելու համար:
