Աննախադեպ կրթական ծրագիր՝ մանկաբարձության ոլորտում

Սեպտեմբերի 28-ին և 29-ին ՄՕՄ կենտրոնը Հայաստանում արդեն երկրորդ անգամ մեկնարկում է ռեֆորմատիվ, նորարարական վեբինարների շարք՝ «Մոր-մանկան և ընտանիքի բարեկամ ծննդատներ» թեմայով։ Գիտաթեմատիկ վեբինարների 1 տարվա այս կրեդիտավորված ծրագիրը Հայաստանում ներկայացնում է «փափուկ ծննդաբերության» գաղափարախոսությունը։
Հոլիստիկ՝ համապարփակ, բազմամասնագիտական վեբինարների այս եզակի շարքն իր նորարարական մոտեցումներով վեր կհանի կարևորագույն խնդիրներ՝ միտում ունենալով բարելավել մանկաբարձական էկոհամակարգը Հայաստանում։
12 ամիս շարունակ, ամեն ամսվա վերջին շաբաթ-կիրակին՝ ծննդօգնության և հարմասնագիտական ոլորտի աշխատակիցները հնարավորություն կունենան լսելու միջազգային և հայաստանյան 60 մասնագետների ելույթները, որոնք նորարարական մոտեցում ցույց կտան ծննդօգնությանը և կառաջարկեն համակողմանի լուծումներ:

Psychology of Birth in Emergency Situations

Pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood are a source of great stress in a woman’s life, even under normal conditions. Artsakh women were forced to bear conditions that were unprecedented and beyond all norms. Pregnant women found themselves at the center of insecurity and existential crises and showed acute signs of anxiety disorders. To address these challenges, we started a series of seminars together with psychologists from Artsakh titled “Psychology of Birth in Emergency Situations.” Psychological support was offered as a way to prevent and manage acute anxiety before childbirth. The feedback from pregnant women was very positive.

Breastfeeding in Emergency Situations

When disaster hits any population, be it war or natural disaster, pregnant women, nursing mothers and infants become the most vulnerable groups. What usually follows any  disaster is a massive wave of humanitarian aid, especially in the form of baby formula.

The abundance in free baby formula coupled with the misconception that breastfeeding is impossible or undesirable when the mother is malnourished and under stress,  immediately jeopardizes breastfeeding culture. That happened to Armenia after the  1988 earthquake: breastfeeding rate fell from 84% to 20%. This very low rate of breastfeeding  skyrocketed childhood diseases and mortality. Having this president MOM Center did everything possible to prevent a public health disaster in Artsakh.

The challenge was to persuade moms that mother’s milk is the most optimal food, especially in emergency situations.

ARTSAKH’S Displaced Families

70 WORKSHOPS IN 6 MONTHS

Pregnant women and mothers from Artsakh faced new types of stress and challenges after displacement. Familiar with their challenges, our dedicated specialists continuously cared for these mothers, from displacement to their resettlement in Armenia. Immediate steps were taken to ensure continuity of care.

Courses offered for mothers:

• Perinatal psychological services
• Pregnancy delivery and postpartum care
• Birth preparation and doula support
• Breastfeeding courses

Courses offered for children and teenagers:

• Psychological groups in the Artsakh dialect
• Eurythmia: dance therapy
• Therapeutic tales and games

The MOM Center started its second year of activity summing up the previous year with a Gala celebration. The results of MOM’s first year of operation were presented.

A platform was created for the meeting and exchange of ideas of about 200 leading doctors of Armenia, medical workers of Artsakh, and employees of the Ministry of Health. 

The obstetrician-gynecologist Vahram Mirzoyan of the Akhuryan Maternity Hospital received the Michel Odent award for the use of innovative methods. In besieged Artsakh, an award was given to Anahit Lalayan for conducting ongoing prenatal psychological courses with Artsakh mothers.

Karine Saribekyan received the Odent Award for great contribution to the field of maternity care throughout her life; in her words “the biggest award she received in her lifetime.”

The first MOM symposium was held in Yerevan on September 17-18, 2022, which was a platform for Armenian and foreign specialists to meet and exchange ideas. 92 year old Michel Odent, a legend in the field of childbirth, was our honored guest and main speaker of the symposium. Participants from different countries attended just to listen to him speak. For the first time, multidisciplinary and holistic discussions were held on the topics of mother and child health, as well as natural physiological childbirth. Great attention was paid to the approaches of the scientific, safe and respectful midwifery model. The symposium was unique for Armenia as it was the first time that not only doctors but also paramedical specialists gave lectures, including doulas, medical anthropologists, obstetricians, gynecologists, neonatologists, breastfeeding specialists, prenatal yoga teachers and perinatal psychologists.

Michel Odent Award for Excellence in Maternity Care

Specialists who shared Odent’s ideology of natural childbirth and applied it in practice received the highest award named after Michel Odent. The award ceremony was performed by Michel Odent himself.

A trilateral cooperation memorandum was signed by the MOM Center of the National Institute of Health and Michel Odent within the framework of the symposium.
