FATHER’S CLUB

This project aims to increase the involvement of fathers in our society, by addressing the underrepresentation of fathers in pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. In many societies, fathers often play a diminished role in these most important life events. In addition, mothers handle the bulk of the baby’s daily care. This can result in fathers having limited knowledge about pregnancy, birth, the postpartum period, and care of newborns and infants, or in their role being undervalued. However research shows that the involvement of fathers as caregivers and supportive figures during this critical time frame in family life can contribute to better outcomes for mothers and children.

Inspired by feedback from mothers from Artsakh who attended 105 lectures about the aforementioned topics, the MOM Center decided to expand the scope of this project to include fathers. This decision led to the creation of the “MOM Families” program, designed to encourage the participation of fathers.

The program saw great success, with 93 participants and 15 courses. Fathers who attended learned about:

* The importance of their role even before the baby is born.

* How to support their partner during pregnancy and childbirth.

* The nuances of baby care, including first aid.

* Techniques for cooperative parenting, helping them work together with their partners to raise their baby.
